£225.00
Item number: 386/114/53

A beautiful English Victorian antique solid sterling silver vinaigrette box. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1853 with the maker being David Pettifer (1853 is just a few years before the Great Stink of 1858 when the River Thames had slowly become so foul and polluted that the government, in Parliament beside the river, could take no more and decided a sewer network must be constructed). It has been beautifully made being decorated with a tartan criss-cross design, the cartouche has been engraved with initials JK. It still retains its sponge. It is in super condition being free from dings splits distortions and repairs. It measures approx. over 1.5 inches (3.9cm) across by over 0.75 inch (2cm) wide and weighs 14 grams. A very high quality piece.
