IMPORTANT ROYAL STERLING SILVER GILT LADLE GRAND OLD DUKE of YORK 1812 GEORGIAN

A rare and very interesting sterling silver gilt Royal ladle. It is hallmarked for London 1812 with the makers mark being that of Ely Fern and Chawner. It has been superbly made to the Hour Glass Pattern and gilded, most interestingly it has been engraved with the crest of Prince Frederick The Duke of York and Albany the second Son of George III (if you search Bonham's and the name you will fine the identical crest). Prince Frederick moved in the same circles as The Duke of Wellington and Lord Nelson being actively involved in many campaigns including the French revolution where it is said his retreat lead to the nursery rhyme 'The Grand old Duke of York'. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs. It measures approx. 5.5 inches (14cm) long by 1.75 inches (4.1cm) wide and weighs 40 grams. A high quality very interesting piece possible once used by Kings, Princes, Dukes and Lords at a pivotal time in history.
