QUALITY SILVER ENAMEL GOLD FRANCO-BRITISH EXHIBITION CIGARETTE / VESTA BOX 1908
A rare antique solid sterling silver, giold and enamel combination cigarette and vesta case. It is hallmarked with the 900 standard mark and the maker's mark SH. It dates to c1908. It has been superbly designed being decorated with the enamelled logo for The Franco-British Exhibition (1908) which ran from May 14 to October 31 in White City (Shepherd's Bush), London, this enormous fair celebrated the growing friendship and cultural exchange established by the Entente Cordiale. The catches are gold, the main catch has been set with a blue stone. It is in very good condition being free from dings splits holes and repairs. The enamel is free from cracks and repairs. It measures approx. 3.5 inches (8.8cm) across by 2.25 inches (5.6cm) wide by 0.5 inch (1cm) deep externally and weighs 128 grams. A very high quality rare example.
