A very unusual and fascination American antique solid silver presentation page turner. It is hallmarked for London 1890 with the makers marks being JP over FB. It appears to be a page turner hand plannished made appropriately in the form of an oversized tongue depressor. It was presented by Lt Coln Woodhall of the US Army to Army Medical Mess Aldershot Nov 1891. Alfred Alexander Woodhall served in the American Civil War, he received a Gold Medal for Military Service, wrote many papers on best medical practice, and visited England in 1891 as part of his research. He later lectured at Princeton. It is in super condition being free from dings slits and repairs. It measures approx. 8.75 inches (22cm) long by 1.25 inch (3.1cm) wide at its widest point and weighs 64 grams. A very interesting item worthy of a museum.
