HISTORIC NAPOLEONIC WAR RIFLE BRIGADE STERLING SILVER PINT TANKARD 1829 GRAMONT
A very historic Georgian English solid sterling silver military pint tankard. It is hallmarked for London 1829 with the makers marks being WB. It has been superbly made being engraved with the insignia of the Rifle Brigade and interestingly, 'To the Officers of the 2nd Battalion Rifle Brigade by the owner of Gramont'. I suspect this is Grammont Belgium which was an important staging post prior to the Battle of Waterloo? - I wonder if the 'owner' was the local lord who accommodated troops for months prior to the battle or maybe the commanding officer? It is in superb condition being free from dings splits holes distortions and repairs. It measures over 4 inches (10.2cm) tall by 5 inches across including the handle and weighs 318 grams. A fascinating piece of military history.
