A very rare English antique solid sterling silver and carved wooden handle butter spreader. The silver is hallmarked for London 1928 with the maker being Johnson, Walker & Tolhurst. It has been superbly designed having a carved wooden handle - I suspect this is much earlier by its design / patina possibly late 17th early 18th century. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs. The whole piece measures approx. 8 inches (20.2cm) long by 1 inch (2.6cm) across the handle and the whole piece weighs 44 grams. A beautifully made rare example.
