A huge heavy Scottish Victorian antique solid sterling silver serving ladle. It is hallmarked for Edinburgh 1846 with the maker being Mackay & Chisholm. It has been superbly made to what is termed the Fiddle pattern, the terminal has been engraved with initials that look to be GDC. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs, light marks from use to the bowl. It measures approx. 13.25 inches (33.6cm) long by 4.25 inches (10.8cm) wide and weighs a very impressive 220 grams. A top quality piece.
