A superb rare English antique solid sterling silver place card or menu holder. It is unmarked other than the maker DRAKE TUNBRIDGE WELLS but tests as sterling silver - most likely commissioned so not sent to the assay office. I would date it to c1900-1920. It has been made in the form of a wheat sheaf crest used by the Milnes, Compson and Routledge Families (were they any wealthy families of these names living around Tunbridge Wells in the early 20th century?). It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs. It measures approx. 2 inches (5.3cm) tall by 1.5 inches wide (standard business card shown for size) and weighs 23 grams. A rare piece.
