A superb rare English solid sterling silver carriage key. It is hallmarked for London 1887 with the makers marks being TJ, it has been retailed by Clark of 20 Old Bond Street known for their luxury travel goods. It has been superbly designed having a sterling silver outer case engraved with what looks to be FA or AF entwined, with an internal steel door key which folds out. These were carried by railway officials and the gentry to open railway carriage doors. It is in superb condition being free from dings splits and repairs, small push mark to the end see final photo. It works perfectly. It measures approx. 3.25 inches wide by the same long and weighs 58 grams. A very unusual piece.
